Moving to Singapore with Pets

The steps required for pet transport to Singapore depend on where you are beginning your journey. Current residents of the US and Canada, for example, must provide a health certificate from a local veterinarian as well as government endorsed paperwork to import a dog to Singapore.

Pet relocation to Singapore has several requirements, including that dogs and cats have a microchip implanted and at least two inactivated rabies vaccinations. For pets coming from the US and Canada, a 10-day quarantine upon arrival is mandatory, and reservations must be scheduled in advance.

Steps for Moving a Pet to Singapore
Moving to Singapore with pets requires at least a few weeks of careful preparation, and depending on where you’re coming from, you’ll also be facing quarantines of varying length.

The import requirements listed below primarily apply to the following countries:

Six Months Continuous Residence in Country of Export (or Since Birth)
Your issuing veterinarian (i.e. local veterinarian) will need to state on the health certificate that your pet has resided continuously in the country of export for the six months prior to departure. Your government veterinarian (for example, the USDA) will also need to be willing to endorse paperwork stating that your pet has resided continuously in the country of export.

Microchip
Each pet shall be identified by means of a microchip. No other form of identification is acceptable. The microchip used should comply with ISO Standard 11784 or Annex A to ISO standard 11785, and AVID 9-digit chips are accepted as well.

First Rabies Vaccination and Certificate
All pets must have an original Rabies Certificate, and this certificate must state the microchip number, the date of inoculation, and the validity of the particular vaccination you obtain — some are good for two years, others are only good for one. This vaccine must be an inactivated vaccine. For import into Singapore, the first rabies vaccine must be older than four months for 10 days of quarantine or older than 3 months for 30 days of quarantine.

Rabies Serology (FAVN) Test
Your vet will need to perform a rabies blood test on your pet at least 30 days after the first rabies vaccination but within six months prior to export. The results need to show your pet has a rabies titer test of =/> .5 IU/mL.

Second Rabies Vaccination and Certificate
All pets must have an original Rabies Certificate, and this certificate must state the microchip number, the date of inoculation and the validity of the particular vaccination you obtain — some are good for up to three years while others are good for one. This vaccine must be an inactivated vaccine. For import into Singapore, the second rabies vaccine must be older than 30 days if you want to qualify for the 10 day quarantine period. The second rabies vaccine must be given after the titer blood draw. It can be performed on the same day as long as they are done in the correct order.

Reserve Quarantine Space
Once the original lab results come back from the rabies serology FAVN test, you will be ready to apply for quarantine space.

Vet Health Certificate (Form 7001) and AVA Veterinary Certificate
This is the standard Health Certificate to be filled out by your accredited Veterinarian, and it must be issued within seven days of the flight. It must also state the pet was treated for external and internal parasites within 2-7 days of the flight.

You must obtain an import permit prior to arrival in Singapore.

Quarantine
There is a 10-day mandatory quarantine upon arrival in Singapore for pets coming from the US, Canada, Netherlands, Belgium and Spain. This cannot be avoided. Reservations must be made with the Singapore Animal Quarantine Station prior to arrival.

Plan ahead
- Purchase a pet identification tag with your new address and telephone number and attach it to your pet before the move.
- Where applicable, ensure your pet has a microchip.
- Find a vet at your new location.
- Talk to us about preferred pet transport companies.
Prepare your pet
- Maintain a normal routine and stick to the same feeding and walking schedule before and after the move.
- Prior to the move, place moving boxes in plain sight and move them around so the sound becomes familiar.
Importing pets
- Ensure your pet is correctly certified based on the destination location.
- Speak to your vet about relevant rabies and any other required vaccinations.
- Our knowledge of quarantine and customs in each country ensures an easier transition for both pet and family.
On moving day
- Try to either leave your pet with a friend, sitter or boarding facility, or keep them in a quiet room with less disruption.
- Some movers prefer to not have pets around on packing day due to liability reasons, so check with them beforehand.
